Coffee Co, TN (March 24, 2026) – A motorcyclist was injured in a crash involving multiple motorcycles on I-24 near Exit 110 in Coffee County.
The accident occurred around 3:25 p.m. on Saturday, March 21, near the interchange connecting I-24 with State Rte 53, also known as Woodbury Hwy and U.S. 41. Authorities said the crash happened shortly after a group of riders crested a hill along the interstate.
According to a preliminary report, 39-year-old Christopher Scott Horsley of Alabama was riding a 2013 Harley-Davidson Street Glide when he attempted to slow down after reaching the top of the hill. Investigators said he was unable to reduce speed in time and struck the rear of another motorcycle in the group.
The second rider was identified as 22-year-old Steven Dewayne Goff Jr., also from Alabama, who was operating a 2021 Harley-Davidson Street Glide. After the initial impact, Horsley’s motorcycle then collided with a third motorcycle.
Officials reported that the third rider left the scene following the crash. Authorities have not released the identity of that rider or a description of the motorcycle involved.
Horsley was the only person injured in the crash. Eastbound lanes of I-24 were blocked for more than an hour while crews worked at the scene and cleared the roadway.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as they are provided.
Our thoughts are with the injured rider as he receives medical care.
Why Motorcycle Group Rides Can Increase Crash Risks
Motorcycles often travel in groups during recreational rides or organized events. While group riding can be enjoyable, it also requires riders to maintain safe spacing and clear communication with others on the road.
When several motorcycles travel close together, sudden speed changes can quickly lead to problems. If one rider brakes abruptly, others behind may have limited time to slow down safely.
Hills, curves, and limited visibility can also make it harder for riders to anticipate traffic conditions ahead. When a group crests a hill, riders may suddenly encounter slower vehicles or other riders reducing speed.
Maintaining adequate following distance and adjusting speed based on roadway conditions can help reduce the risk of rear-end collisions among motorcycles traveling together.
