How Do Serious Injuries Occur in Two-Vehicle Highway Crashes?
Two-vehicle crashes on highways can result in serious injuries, especially when one vehicle sustains heavy structural damage. When a vehicle collapses or is significantly impacted, occupants may become trapped and require extrication by emergency crews before receiving medical care.
High speeds and limited reaction time often contribute to the severity of these crashes, increasing the risk of trauma such as internal injuries, fractures, or head injuries. Even when other occupants experience only minor injuries, the difference in impact forces between vehicles can lead to drastically different outcomes. Prompt emergency response and hospital transport play a critical role in improving recovery chances for those seriously hurt.
