What Can Lead to Center Line Crossings on Rural Highways?
Crashes on rural roads often happen when a vehicle crosses into oncoming traffic. This can be caused by driver fatigue, distraction, or impaired driving. Narrow lanes and limited shoulders may also increase the risk, especially on roads without barriers.
Speed is another factor. Higher speeds reduce reaction time and make it harder to correct mistakes. Curves, uneven pavement, and poor visibility can further complicate driving conditions on highways like KY 801.
Motorcyclists are especially vulnerable in these situations. Unlike enclosed vehicles, they have less protection and are more exposed during impact. Wearing protective gear and staying alert can help reduce risk, but sudden lane intrusions remain a serious hazard.
