Why Stopped Vehicles on Highways Can Be Dangerous
Highways are designed for continuous, high-speed travel, which can make stopped vehicles especially risky. Even when a vehicle is legally parked on the shoulder, passing drivers may have limited time to react.
Low visibility during early morning hours can further increase the danger. Drivers may not immediately notice a stopped vehicle or a person outside of it, especially if lighting is poor.
Large vehicles like semi-trucks require longer distances to slow down or stop. This can make it harder to avoid obstacles near the roadway, increasing the risk of serious incidents when someone is outside their vehicle.
