Henrico, VA (May 8, 2026) – A man died following a multi-vehicle crash on Thursday night, May 7, in the Fairfield area of Henrico County. Emergency units responded to the 7800 block of Woodman Road around 9:40 p.m.
Officers arriving at the scene found a Kia minivan with severe rear-end damage and a Nissan Xterra with heavy front-end damage. The driver and passenger of the Kia were taken to a nearby hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the Nissan, identified as 45-year-old Andrew Davis of Henrico, was found unresponsive at the scene. He later died from his injuries at a hospital. Investigators said the preliminary investigation showed the Kia had turned onto Woodman Road to head southbound when it was struck by the Nissan. Authorities stated that speed and lack of seatbelt use are believed to have contributed to the crash involving Davis.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as soon as they become available.
We extend our sincere condolences to the loved ones of Andrew Davis.
How Speed and Seatbelt Use Can Affect Serious Crashes
Speed can greatly increase the force of impact during a crash, especially on roads where vehicles are entering or turning into traffic. Higher speeds often reduce reaction time for drivers and can make it harder to avoid a collision once another vehicle enters the roadway.
Seatbelts are designed to help reduce severe injuries by keeping occupants secured during sudden impacts. In many crashes, investigators review whether seatbelts were used because restraint systems can affect the severity of injuries. Multi-vehicle accidents involving turning movements are also commonly examined for visibility, traffic flow, and timing between vehicles.
Damage patterns, roadway conditions, and witness statements may all help investigators better understand how a collision unfolded and why injuries were more severe for certain occupants.
