Hondo, TX (April 19, 2026) – A 72-year-old man was killed Saturday morning after a crash on Highway 90 in Medina County that left two others seriously injured and led to westbound lane closures for several hours. Emergency units responded to the scene near San Francisco Perez Creek and County Road 4614 following reports of a multi-vehicle collision.
Preliminary details indicate that a Toyota Tacoma traveling eastbound on Highway 90 lost control for reasons that have not yet been determined. The pickup crossed into the westbound lanes and struck an SUV and a tractor-trailer.
The driver of the Toyota Tacoma, a 72-year-old man who was the only occupant, was ejected during the impact and died at the scene. His identity has not been released at this time.
Both people inside the SUV were taken to a hospital in San Antonio with serious injuries. The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured in the crash. Westbound traffic on the highway was blocked for several hours as crews worked at the scene and cleared debris.
The investigation remains ongoing.
We extend our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased.
What Officials Typically Review After a Highway Multi-Vehicle Crash
After a serious highway crash involving multiple vehicles, early attention usually centers on the sequence of events leading up to the impact. Investigators often look at vehicle positions, roadway conditions, and traffic flow in the moments before the incident.
They may also assess physical evidence from the scene, including skid marks, debris patterns, and points of impact. These details can help outline how the vehicles moved and interacted during the crash.
In cases involving serious injuries, medical reports later provide additional clarity about the level of harm sustained by those involved. This information can help build a clearer timeline of how the incident unfolded.
Environmental factors such as lighting, weather, and road design may also be reviewed to better understand the circumstances surrounding the crash.
