Multi-Vehicle Crashes Can Push Vehicles Off the Roadway
Crashes involving several vehicles can create complex impact patterns that send vehicles into nearby ditches, medians, or shoulders. When one vehicle is struck, the force can cause a chain reaction that affects the movement of other cars nearby.
Roadside ditches can increase the severity of damage because vehicles may overturn or strike uneven ground after leaving the roadway. Drivers and passengers can also face additional injury risks when vehicles come to rest at unusual angles.
Busy roads like West State Street may see a mix of local traffic, turning vehicles, and changing speeds, all of which can contribute to multi-vehicle collisions. Emergency crews often need extra time to assess injuries, remove damaged vehicles, and safely reopen the roadway after these incidents occur.
