What Factors Are Commonly Reviewed After a Bicycle Crash?
After a serious bicycle crash, several details are often reviewed to better understand how the encounter with the roadway unfolded. Investigators may examine traffic flow, visibility, weather, lane spacing, and whether drivers or cyclists had sufficient time to react. Lighting can also matter, especially during late afternoon or evening travel.
Road design is another common focus. Narrow shoulders, limited bike lanes, and heavy traffic can increase the risk to cyclists. Vehicle speed and stopping distance may also help explain the severity of a rider’s injuries.
Medical findings sometimes provide more clarity in the days after the collision. Information on protective gear, bicycle damage, and witness statements may also help create a clearer timeline of events leading up to emergency crews’ arrival.
