Indianapolis, IN (January 19, 2026) – A 15-year-old driver was injured in an overnight accident that resulted in a vehicle fire near Broad Ripple, prompting a swift response from emergency crews early on Sunday morning, January 18.
Authorities were alerted to the crash around 2:20 a.m., with initial reports indicating a vehicle was fully engulfed in flames on Westfield Boulevard, just west of College Avenue. First responders rushed to the scene near the Allegiant Broad Ripple area, where fire crews worked quickly to extinguish the blaze.
Fortunately, the teen driver had already exited the burning vehicle before fire crews arrived. Medics evaluated the individual on-site, and arrangements were made for further medical examination due to the driver’s age and the circumstances of the crash.
The scene required temporary traffic control as additional units assisted in securing the area and investigating the incident. Police later confirmed the driver was only 15 years old, raising additional concerns regarding the circumstances that led to the collision.
The investigation remains ongoing, with officials reviewing how the teen came to be behind the wheel and whether any contributing factors played a role in the crash.
We extend our thoughts to the young driver and their family, and we hope for a full and safe recovery.
