Why are hit-and-run crashes involving pedestrians often severe?
Pedestrian crashes on highways are especially dangerous due to high speeds and limited visibility. When a driver leaves the scene, it can delay emergency response and make it harder to determine exactly how the crash occurred.
Investigators often rely on roadway evidence, vehicle debris, and witness accounts to piece together events. These cases can take time to resolve, as identifying the vehicle and driver is a key part of the process. Pedestrians are particularly vulnerable in these environments, where safe crossing areas are limited.
