Marion County, KY (April 13, 2026) – A 21-year-old basketball coach died after a head-on crash on Bradfordsville Road in Marion County.
The collision happened around 6:26 p.m. on Friday, April 10, when two vehicles struck each other along the roadway. According to investigators, a southbound pickup truck crossed into the northbound lane while attempting to pass another vehicle in a no-passing zone.
The pickup, driven by 35-year-old Jacob Buckingham of Bradfordsville, collided head-on with a Honda Civic driven by 21-year-old Mason May of Lebanon. Emergency units responded to the scene following the crash. May was pronounced dead at the scene by the coroner’s office. Buckingham was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as soon as they become available.
Our condolences go out to the loved ones of May during this difficult time.
Why Passing in No-Passing Zones Can Lead to Serious Crashes
No-passing zones are marked in areas where visibility is limited or road conditions make overtaking unsafe. These sections often include curves, hills, or narrow stretches where oncoming traffic may not be clearly visible.
When a driver enters the opposite lane in these areas, the time available to react to approaching vehicles is reduced. This increases the chance of a direct collision, especially if another driver is unable to avoid the impact.
Head-on crashes are among the most severe types of roadway accidents due to the combined force of both vehicles. Even a brief attempt to pass in the wrong location can quickly lead to dangerous outcomes on rural or two-lane roads.
