Why Rollover Crashes Often Lead to Serious Outcomes
Rollover crashes are among the more severe types of roadway incidents due to the forces involved when a vehicle tips or flips. These crashes can happen when a driver loses control, especially at higher speeds or on uneven surfaces. Larger vehicles like box trucks may also have a higher center of gravity, which can increase the risk of rolling.
Seat belt use can reduce the chance of being thrown from a vehicle during a rollover. Staying inside the vehicle often lowers the risk of fatal injuries. Road conditions, vehicle load, and sudden steering movements can also contribute to these incidents.
Understanding how rollovers occur may help drivers remain more aware of handling changes, especially when operating larger or heavier vehicles.
