Emergency units responded shortly after midnight to an apartment building in the 4300 block of 236th Street South West. Crews arrived to find heavy smoke and flames coming from a three-story structure, with fire spreading through multiple levels and into the attic.
Two adults and a dog were rescued from a third-floor window using a ladder. The man and woman, both in their 20s, were taken to a nearby hospital in stable condition and later released. Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the fire, and more details will be released as soon as they become available.
Our thoughts are with those affected as they continue to recover.
How Apartment Fires Can Spread Quickly in Multi-Story Buildings
Fires in apartment buildings can spread rapidly due to shared walls, ceilings, and ventilation spaces. Once flames reach upper floors or attic areas, they can move across connected units, increasing the number of homes affected.
Smoke is another major hazard. It can travel through hallways and stairwells, reducing visibility and making evacuation more difficult. Early warning systems like smoke alarms help alert residents before conditions worsen.
Evacuation plans are key in multi-unit buildings. Knowing exit routes and having a plan can help residents leave quickly and safely. Fire crews often conduct thorough searches to ensure everyone has exited and to prevent the fire from spreading further.
