Milwaukee, WI (May 25, 2026) – At least four people were injured in a multi-vehicle collision involving a Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office squad car near North 12th Street and West Vliet Street on Saturday.
According to information released by the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office, the sequence began around 7 p.m. on May 23 after a deputy located a vehicle reported stolen out of Illinois near North 35th Street and West North Avenue. Three people later entered the vehicle, and deputies took them into custody after surrounding it.
Officials said the driver of the reported-stolen vehicle later experienced a medical emergency while being taken to the downtown Milwaukee Criminal Justice Facility. The deputy activated emergency lights and sirens while heading toward a hospital and entered the intersection at North 12th Street and West Vliet Street, where the squad vehicle struck another car traveling eastbound.
The first vehicle overturned after being struck, and the squad car then hit a second vehicle. Several people inside the overturned vehicle reported minor injuries. The driver of the second vehicle also reported minor harm, and the deputy suffered minor injuries from airbag deployment.
The detained man was removed from the squad vehicle and treated with naloxone before being taken to a hospital, where he remained under medical observation. Additional details about the people involved were not immediately released. We are thinking of everyone affected as they recover.
What Is Often Reviewed After Emergency Vehicle Intersection Collisions
After roadway situations involving emergency vehicles traveling with lights and sirens activated, investigators usually examine traffic movement, signal timing, and vehicle speeds leading up to the point of contact. Damage patterns and final vehicle positions can help clarify how each vehicle entered the intersection.
Statements from drivers, passengers, and witnesses may also be compared with physical evidence gathered from the roadway. In some cases, dashboard camera footage or nearby surveillance recordings provide additional context about visibility and timing.
Medical evaluations may later help explain the extent of harm experienced by those involved. Road conditions, lighting, and traffic volume are also commonly reviewed when reconstructing intersection sequences. These combined details help investigators better understand how emergency travel and surrounding traffic interacted before the collision occurred.
