Risks of Pedestrian Crashes in Residential Areas Without Sidewalks
In neighborhoods where sidewalks are missing, pedestrians often walk close to the roadway. This can increase the chance of being struck, especially during overnight hours when visibility is lower.
Drivers may have less time to react if people are walking along the edge of the street. Parked cars, narrow lanes, and limited lighting can make it harder to see pedestrians clearly. These conditions can also contribute to vehicles leaving the roadway and striking nearby objects or homes.
When multiple vehicles are involved, the situation can become more complex. Impacts may affect nearby property, and damage patterns can make it harder to determine how the crash unfolded.
