Dougherty, IA (May 22, 2026) – A two-vehicle crash at the intersection of 150th St and Vine Ave left one person injured Thursday morning. The collision was reported at around 9:50 a.m.
Todd Franke, 51, of Dumont, was driving a 2003 GMC Sierra. Gregory Kulow, 67, of Hampton, was behind the wheel of a 2025 Freightliner registered to D & L Sanitation of Sheffield. The airbags in the GMC Sierra deployed on impact.

The crash is still under review, and additional details are expected as the investigation moves forward. We wish Taylor Mahler a smooth and quick recovery.
What Factors Are Typically Examined After a Two-Vehicle Crash at a Rural Intersection in Iowa?
Rural intersections in Iowa see a notable share of serious crashes each year, largely because of high speeds, limited visibility, and fewer traffic controls than urban roads. When two vehicles meet at a country crossroad, the angle of impact and each driver’s speed at the moment of contact often determine how serious the outcome is. Airbag deployment, as seen in some crashes, can point investigators toward the force involved. Seat belt use is also closely reviewed, since it frequently affects injury severity. In crashes involving commercial vehicles — such as trucks registered to a business — records related to the vehicle’s maintenance and the driver’s history may also be examined as part of a thorough review.
