Pasco, WA (May 6, 2026) – Two people were injured in a rear-end crash in Pasco on Tuesday, May 5. The collision happened around 9:50 p.m. on westbound Interstate 182 near mile marker 10.
Officials said both vehicles were traveling west when a 2013 Hyundai Sonata hit the rear of a 2013 Ford Focus. The crash was attributed to speeds too fast for the current conditions.
The Hyundai driver, 18-year-old Elijah Lozano of Pasco, was not injured. Charges against him were listed as pending. The Ford driver, 35-year-old Edvardo L. Guzman of Pasco, and a kid passenger were both injured.
Guzman and the kid were taken to Kadlec Regional Medical Center for treatment. Both vehicles were totaled and removed from the scene. Officials said everyone involved was wearing a seat belt.
The crash remains under investigation. Additional details may become available as authorities continue their review.
We extend our thoughts to those injured and wish them a full recovery.
Rear-End Collisions on High-Speed Roads
Rear-end crashes on highways can cause serious injuries because vehicles may be moving at higher speeds. When one vehicle strikes another from behind, the force can push passengers forward and then backward quickly, or commonly known as whiplash.
These crashes lead to neck, back, head, and chest injuries. Even with seat belts in use, the sudden movement can hurt drivers and passengers. Children may also need careful medical checks after a strong impact.
Road conditions can affect stopping distance. Wet pavement, darkness, traffic flow, and speed changes may reduce the time a driver has to react. Vehicle damage, skid marks, and final positions can help show how the rear-end impact occurred.
