Pendleton, IN (May 13, 2026) – Two people were injured early Wednesday morning in a crash involving a semi-truck and another vehicle on Interstate 69 near mile marker 212 in the Pendleton area.
Emergency units responded around 4:30 a.m. to the southbound lanes of I-69 near Highway 13 after reports of a serious collision. Authorities said the crash involved a semi-truck that overturned during the incident, trapping the driver inside the vehicle.
Diesel fuel spilled onto the roadway following the rollover, leading to a lengthy cleanup operation. Officials confirmed that both drivers suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
The southbound lanes of I-69 remained closed for several hours, with traffic backed up toward the Pendleton and Anderson exits. Highway 38 also experienced slow-moving traffic due to the closure. Southbound lanes reopened around 7 a.m. while crews continued cleanup efforts in the area.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash, and more details may be released as they become available. We are thinking of those injured as they recover.
Why Semi-Truck Rollover Crashes Often Require Extensive Cleanup
Semi-truck rollover crashes can create major traffic disruptions because large commercial vehicles may block multiple lanes and spill fuel or cargo onto the roadway. Cleanup operations often take several hours, especially when hazardous materials such as diesel fuel are involved.
Entrapment is also more common in rollover accidents involving heavy trucks due to their size and weight. Emergency crews may need specialized equipment to safely remove trapped occupants and stabilize the wreckage.
Investigators commonly review vehicle speed, roadway conditions, and the movement of both vehicles after truck rollover crashes. Fuel spills, debris patterns, and damage to nearby roadway barriers can also help determine how the accident occurred.
