Pittsylvania County, VA (March 29, 2026) – A woman and a young child were killed on Friday afternoon following a two-vehicle crash at an intersection in Pittsylvania County, according to Virginia State Police.
Authorities said the collision occurred around 2:30 p.m. at the intersection of Halifax Road and Spring Garden Road. Preliminary findings indicate that a Ford F-350 traveling westbound on Halifax Road was unable to avoid a Honda Accord at the intersection.
Police reported that the Ford struck the Honda on the driver’s side, causing severe damage to the vehicle. The driver of the Honda, a 46-year-old woman, and a 4-year-old girl who was a passenger, were both pronounced dead at the scene. Officials noted that both were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.
The driver of the Ford was not injured. The crash remains under investigation, and no additional details have been released at this time.
We extend our sincere condolences to the victims’ families and loved ones during this difficult time.
Intersection crashes often result in severe side-impact collisions
Crashes at intersections can be particularly dangerous due to the angle of impact. Side-impact collisions, also known as T-bone crashes, often provide less protection to occupants compared to front or rear-end crashes.
These types of accidents frequently occur when one driver fails to yield the right-of-way or misjudges the timing of oncoming traffic. Even at moderate speeds, the force of a side impact can lead to serious or fatal injuries, especially for passengers seated on the impacted side.
Drivers are encouraged to approach intersections cautiously, remain alert to other vehicles, and ensure it is safe to proceed before entering.
