What Makes Hit-and-Run Crashes Especially Serious?
Hit-and-run crashes can delay care for injured people because the driver leaves before help is fully provided. When a person is struck, every minute can matter, especially if the crash happens at night or along a rural road.
Witness information can help connect a vehicle to the scene. Details such as vehicle color, direction of travel, damage, or nearby camera footage may help authorities learn what happened after the impact.
Pedestrian crashes often cause severe injuries because a person has no protection from the force of a moving vehicle. Head, chest, leg, and internal injuries are common concerns. Nighttime conditions can also reduce visibility for drivers and people near the roadway.
