Richland Township, OH (March 29, 2026) – A deadly crash involving a semi-truck and a car occurred on Sunday morning, March 29, in Richland Township along US 30 at the Hancock County Line in Allen County.
Authorities say a 2015 Lincoln MKS, driven by 62-year-old Lawrence Morris Sr. of Toledo, was traveling south on CR 15 when it entered the intersection. At the same time, a 2018 Kenworth semi, driven by 54-year-old Andrew Skiles of Rochester, Indiana, was heading west on US 30. The car failed to yield at a stop sign and was struck on the side by the semi.
Morris suffered fatal injuries and was taken from the scene to a local funeral home. A 15-year-old passenger, Lawrence Morris III, sustained life-threatening injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital. Skiles was also hurt and received medical care after the crash. All occupants were wearing seat belts.
Both vehicles were heavily damaged and removed from the scene by towing services.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as soon as they become available. We extend our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased.
How Right-of-Way Violations at Intersections Can Lead to Serious Crashes
Crashes at intersections often occur when a driver fails to yield as required by traffic signs or signals. Stop signs are placed to control traffic flow and reduce the risk of vehicles crossing paths at the same time. When a driver does not stop or misjudges another vehicle’s speed, the chance of a side-impact collision increases.
These types of crashes are especially dangerous because the sides of vehicles offer less protection than the front or rear. Larger vehicles, such as semi-trucks, also require longer distances to slow down or stop, which can make it harder to avoid a collision once a smaller vehicle enters the roadway. Careful attention to posted signs and checking for oncoming traffic can help reduce these risks.
