Rockaway Beach, OR (March 24, 2026) – A disturbing incident occurred on Sunday afternoon, March 22, after a crash in a parking area escalated into a violent stabbing. Emergency units responded around 1:11 p.m. to the Rockaway Beach Wayside after reports that a vehicle had struck a pedestrian.
Investigators said a pregnant woman carrying her two-year-old son was hit by a silver Jeep Patriot while walking with her husband. After the vehicle came to a stop, the husband approached the occupants to confront them. During the exchange, a male passenger got out and stabbed him in the back before returning to the vehicle as it fled the scene.
The vehicle stopped a short distance away, and the female driver returned on foot and cooperated with deputies. The male suspect ran from the area and tried to avoid being identified by changing his clothing. He was later located nearby and taken into custody without further incident.
The woman and her young son were hurt in the crash but are expected to recover. The husband was taken to a hospital for treatment and is also expected to be okay. A 25-year-old suspect now faces several charges, including assault and unlawful use of a weapon.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the incident, and more details will be released as they become available. Our thoughts are with the injured victims as they continue to recover.
What Factors Can Turn a Traffic Incident Into a More Serious Situation?
Some crashes can quickly become more serious when emotions rise after impact. People involved may react with fear or anger, especially when injuries or family members are involved. This can sometimes lead to confrontations at the scene.
Busy or crowded areas, such as parking lots near public spaces, can also create confusion. Drivers and pedestrians may not clearly see each other, increasing the risk of sudden collisions. When multiple people are involved, the situation can escalate faster.
Staying calm after a crash can help reduce tension. Giving space, avoiding arguments, and waiting for help to arrive may prevent further harm. Even in stressful moments, keeping distance between those involved can make a difference in how events unfold.
