What Can Cause a Vehicle to Cross the Center Line on a Highway?
When a vehicle crosses the center line on a highway, it can lead to serious head-on crashes. Several factors may contribute to this type of movement, even when road conditions appear normal.
Driver fatigue is one common cause, especially during longer trips. A tired person may drift out of their lane without noticing. Medical issues can also lead to sudden loss of control, including fainting or other health-related events.
Distractions inside the vehicle, such as using a phone or adjusting controls, may also cause a driver to veer off course. In some cases, mechanical problems like tire failure or steering issues can play a part.
Road design and visibility may also influence how easily a driver can stay within their lane, particularly on rural highways with limited barriers.
