Why Wrong-Way Crashes on Highways Can Be So Dangerous
Wrong-way crashes on highways often happen late at night or in the early morning hours. Reduced visibility and lower traffic volumes can make it harder for drivers to quickly recognize a vehicle traveling in the wrong direction.
These crashes frequently involve high speeds because highway traffic moves faster than city traffic. When two vehicles collide head-on at highway speeds, the force of impact can be severe, even if injuries appear minor at first.
Exit ramps and entrance ramps can also create confusion, especially in dark conditions. Clear signage, road markings, and driver awareness are key factors in preventing these types of accidents.
