Salina, NY (April 12, 2026) – A late-night crash in Salina left one man critically injured after a vehicle struck a residence on Colony Park Drive in Onondaga County.
The incident happened around 11 p.m. on Saturday, April 11, when emergency units responded to reports of a vehicle that had crashed into a home. Investigators said the crash followed an interaction between two men outside the residence.
According to preliminary findings, 38-year-old Brendan M. Kearney of Syracuse had transported 41-year-old Jamell L. Works of Liverpool to a home on Colony Park Drive. Once they arrived, Works reportedly refused to exit the vehicle while seated in the driver’s seat.
During the interaction, Kearney attempted to reach into the vehicle to remove the keys. Police said Works then accelerated in reverse, dragging Kearney a short distance before he was thrown to the pavement and seriously injured. Works continued driving backward and ultimately crashed into the living room of a nearby home.
Kearney was transported to Upstate University Hospital, where he remains in critical condition with a reported brain bleed. Works was later evaluated and determined to be impaired by drugs. He now faces multiple charges, including vehicular assault and impaired driving offenses.
Authorities continue to investigate the incident, and more details will be released as soon as they become available.
We extend our sincere condolences to those affected and hope for the recovery of the injured.
How Vehicle Crashes Into Homes Can Occur in Residential Areas
Crashes involving homes often happen when a driver loses control or accelerates unexpectedly in tight residential spaces. Driveways, parked cars, and narrow roads can increase the risk of limited maneuvering room.
When a vehicle is placed in reverse at high speed, steering control can become more difficult, especially if the driver is impaired or disoriented. Even short distances can lead to severe impacts when a vehicle strikes a structure.
In residential crashes, people nearby are also at risk of injury, particularly if they are close to the vehicle at the time of impact. These incidents often require both medical response and structural safety checks at the scene.
