Saratoga, WI (May 4, 2026) – A 56-year-old Wisconsin Rapids man suffered serious injuries in a crash involving a semi and a pickup truck in the town of Saratoga.
The collision occurred around 11:49 a.m. on Sunday, along State Route 13 near Tower Road in Wood County. Emergency units responded to the scene and found both vehicles involved in a head-on crash.
Initial reports indicate the semi was traveling north while the pickup truck was heading south. The pickup crossed the center line into oncoming traffic and collided with the semi. The driver of the pickup sustained possible life-threatening injuries and was flown by medical helicopter to a hospital in Marshfield.
A section of State Route 13 was closed in both directions for about three hours while crews worked at the scene. The roadway has since reopened. Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as soon as they are provided.
We are thinking of those injured as they receive medical care.
Head-On Crashes Often Result in Severe Injuries on Rural Highways
Head-on crashes are among the most dangerous types of roadway incidents, especially on two-lane highways. When vehicles traveling in opposite directions collide, the combined force of impact can lead to serious or life-threatening injuries.
These crashes may occur when a driver crosses the center line, whether due to distraction, fatigue, or loss of control. Rural highways like State 13 often have higher speeds and fewer physical barriers, which can increase the risk of this type of accident.
Response times can also vary in rural areas, making emergency transport options like medical helicopters more common. Clear lane markings, alert driving, and maintaining control of the vehicle are key factors in reducing the risk of head-on collisions.
