St. Joseph Co., IN (April 16, 2026) – A rollover crash involving a FedEx box truck caused traffic backups Monday afternoon, April 13, along the U.S. 20 Bypass in St. Joseph County. The incident was reported around 4:02 p.m. between Ironwood Drive and State Road 331.
Emergency units responded to the scene and found the truck overturned, blocking part of the roadway and slowing traffic in the area. An ambulance was requested, and at least one person was taken for further medical care following the crash.
Officials also reported several additional crashes along U.S. 20 around the same time as crews worked to clear the initial incident. These separate crashes also required emergency response, including another ambulance transport.
Crews remained on scene working to upright the truck and clear the roadway to restore traffic flow. The crash remains under investigation, and additional details may become available as authorities continue their review. Our thoughts are with those affected as they continue to recover.
Why Truck Rollovers Can Disrupt Traffic for Extended Periods
Arterial roads like U.S. 20 Bypass often carry steady traffic throughout the day. In St. Joseph County, when a large truck overturns, responders may limit lanes to safely manage the scene and reduce further risk.
Truck rollovers can block multiple lanes due to the size of the vehicle and any scattered cargo. This can slow traffic quickly, especially in areas where alternate routes are limited.
Clearing these crashes may take time because crews often need specialized equipment to lift and reposition the vehicle. During that process, traffic patterns may be adjusted to help keep vehicles moving while work continues nearby.
