Why Left-Turn Motorcycle Collisions Are Often Severe
Left-turn crashes involving motorcycles frequently occur at intersections when a turning driver crosses the path of an oncoming rider. These incidents can develop quickly because motorcycles are smaller and may be harder to judge in terms of speed and distance.
When a vehicle turns across traffic, even a brief miscalculation can result in a direct impact. Motorcyclists are particularly vulnerable due to limited physical protection compared to occupants in enclosed vehicles.
Investigators typically review traffic signals, vehicle movement patterns, sightlines, and roadway design to determine how the collision occurred. These details help establish whether timing, visibility, or driver perception contributed to the crash sequence.
