Lexington Park, MD (May 31, 2026) – An adult and a child were seriously hurt Saturday, May 30, after a motorcycle and a pickup truck collided at the intersection of Point Lookout Road and Great Mills Road in Lexington Park. The collision was reported at approximately 6:40 p.m.
Emergency units arrived and found that both people riding the motorcycle had been ejected. Medical crews requested air transport for both patients following an on-site evaluation.
The adult patient was flown to MedStar Washington Hospital Center. A 12-year-old girl was airlifted to Children’s National Hospital. Flight personnel reported the child was conscious, alert, and breathing, and that one of her limbs had been trapped beneath the pickup truck after the crash.
The names of those involved had not been released at the time of publication.
Work to determine all factors surrounding the accident is still underway. We hope both patients make a full and speedy recovery.
Why Are Motorcycle Riders More Vulnerable to Serious Injuries?
Motorcycle riders have far less physical protection than people traveling in passenger vehicles. Even when helmets and other safety gear are used, riders can face a higher risk of serious harm during roadway incidents because they are more exposed to direct contact with other vehicles, pavement, or roadside objects.
Ejection from a motorcycle can increase the severity of injuries, especially when multiple points of contact occur after a rider leaves the bike. Medical teams often evaluate for head trauma, fractures, internal injuries, and damage to the arms or legs. Children riding as passengers may face additional risks because of their smaller size and lower body weight.
After a serious motorcycle-related roadway event, medical providers typically continue monitoring patients for complications that may not be immediately visible during initial treatment.
