Lincoln, NE (May 22, 2026) – Two people were hurt Thursday night, May 21, after a two-vehicle accident at South 56th Street and Sherman Street in Lincoln.
The wreck was reported at about 9:30 p.m. Initial reports said one person may have been trapped. Emergency units later reported heavy front-end damage and worked to remove two people from the passenger side of a pickup.
One male driver was taken to Bryan West with severe trauma. Reports indicated he had a low GCS score, and had an obvious right femur fracture.
A woman in her 30s was also taken for treatment with trauma injuries. She was wearing a seat belt and reported right-side pain, an open right wrist fracture, and right hip pain.
The cause of the collision remains under review as investigators gather more facts. We hope both people injured receive steady care and support during recovery.
Why Head-On Vehicle Accidents Can Cause Severe Trauma
Head-on vehicle accidents can cause serious harm because the force often moves directly through the front of both vehicles. People inside may hit seat belts, airbags, dashboards, or doors with heavy force. Injuries can affect the head, chest, hips, legs, arms, and wrists.
Seat belt use can reduce the risk of being thrown inside the vehicle, but it cannot prevent every injury. Medical teams may also focus on breathing, alertness, broken bones, and possible internal trauma. When people must be removed from a damaged vehicle, crews often work carefully to protect the neck, back, and limbs before hospital care begins.
