How Centerline Crossings Can Lead to Serious Roadway Crashes
A vehicle crossing into oncoming traffic can create a dangerous situation because drivers often have very little time to avoid a direct collision. These types of crashes may happen for many reasons, including distraction, fatigue, weather conditions, or loss of vehicle control.
Reviews after a serious roadway crash may examine vehicle positions, lane markings, road conditions, and available witness information. Investigators may also look at vehicle damage to better understand how the vehicles moved before and during the collision.
Roads with two-way traffic require drivers to remain aware of lane placement and surrounding vehicles. Staying focused and maintaining control can help reduce the risk of crossing into opposing lanes.
