Why Multi-Vehicle Crashes at Rural Intersections Can Be So Severe
Intersections along highways like Route 22 often combine high-speed traffic with vehicles entering from smaller roads. When a driver fails to stop at a posted sign, the risk of a high-impact crash increases sharply.
Large commercial vehicles such as dump trucks and tractor-trailers require more distance to slow down or stop. Their size and weight can also cause greater damage during a collision. When multiple heavy vehicles are involved, the force of impact may multiply.
Visibility, traffic flow, and timing all affect how safely drivers can enter a major roadway. Even a brief mistake at a stop sign can lead to chain-reaction crashes, especially on busy routes where vehicles travel at higher speeds.
