Why Multi-Semi Highway Crashes Can Cause Major Traffic Disruptions
Crashes involving multiple semi-trucks often create extensive roadway closures because large commercial vehicles can block several lanes at once and leave behind significant debris. Cleanup and towing operations may take hours due to the size and weight of the vehicles involved.
Highway crashes involving semis may also increase the risk of secondary collisions as traffic slows or stops unexpectedly. Early morning travel conditions, reduced visibility, and heavy freight traffic can all contribute to chain-reaction crashes.
After major truck collisions, investigators commonly review skid marks, vehicle positions, and roadway conditions to determine the sequence of impacts. Cargo loads, braking distance, and traffic flow patterns may also be examined during the investigation.
