How Police Pursuits Can Increase Crash Risks
Crashes during police pursuits often involve higher speeds and sudden maneuvers. Drivers attempting to flee may ignore traffic signals or take sharp turns, increasing the chance of losing control.
Vehicles involved in pursuits may also carry multiple occupants, which can increase the risk of injury in a crash. Passengers may not be prepared for sudden stops or impacts.
Road conditions and surrounding traffic can further affect the outcome. When a driver tries to evade pursuit in busy or unfamiliar areas, the likelihood of hitting objects like trees or other obstacles increases.
