Novato, CA (April 11, 2026) – One teen died, and several others were hurt early on Saturday morning, April 11, in a crash at the intersection of San Marin Dr and Simmons Ln in Novato. The incident was reported around 1 a.m. after multiple 911 calls.

Emergency units arrived and found a single-vehicle crash involving five teenage occupants, ages 16 to 18. All five were taken to a hospital with major injuries, where one of the teens later died. The remaining victims were reported to be in critical condition.

Authorities believe the 17-year-old driver may have been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. Preliminary information also indicates the teens are not from the Novato area.

Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as soon as they become available.

Our condolences go out to the victim’s loved ones.

How Alcohol Use Can Affect Driving Among Teen Drivers

Alcohol can significantly affect a driver’s ability to react, focus, and make safe decisions. For teen drivers, the risks are often higher due to limited driving experience and less familiarity with handling unexpected situations.

Impaired driving can lead to poor judgment, such as speeding or failing to maintain control of the vehicle. These behaviors increase the likelihood of a crash, especially during late-night hours when visibility is reduced.

Younger drivers may also underestimate the effects of alcohol, which can lead to risky choices behind the wheel. When multiple passengers are in the vehicle, the risk of serious outcomes can increase if a crash occurs.
