Bangor, ME (April 27, 2026) – A man was arrested on Sunday, April 26, after authorities say he fled the scene of a serious crash near the Main Street overpass in Bangor. The collision originally occurred on Saturday morning, April 25, and involved two vehicles.
Emergency units responded to reports of a crash where one vehicle struck another, causing it to leave the roadway. Officials said the impacted vehicle went over a guardrail, down an embankment, and into a wooded area.
The driver of that vehicle, a 20-year-old woman from Chester, was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The second vehicle, a Ford Mustang, reportedly spun out and hit a concrete barrier in the median.
Authorities said the Mustang’s driver was seen walking away from the scene on foot. Using a tip and submitted photo evidence, investigators identified and later arrested 48-year-old David Harris of Brewer at his apartment around 7:40 a.m. Sunday.
The incident remains under review by authorities.
Our thoughts are with the injured driver as she continues to recover.
What Happens After a Suspected Hit-and-Run Crash?
When a driver leaves the scene of a crash involving injury, investigators often rely on witness statements, vehicle damage, and surveillance or submitted photos to identify those involved. Tips from the public can play a key role in locating suspects.
Injury crashes involving vehicles leaving the roadway can lead to more serious outcomes due to steep embankments or wooded terrain. Emergency responders focus first on safely reaching and treating injured occupants.
