Challenges When Emergency Vehicles Are Responding
Crashes involving emergency vehicles can occur even before the vehicle is fully responding with lights and sirens. Drivers may misjudge the movement of large trucks or emergency apparatus, especially in busy intersections.
Fire trucks and other emergency vehicles require extra space to maneuver, and sudden vehicle movements nearby can increase the risk of collisions. Awareness, careful lane changes, and allowing extra distance around emergency vehicles can help reduce accidents in these situations.
