What Factors Can Contribute to Bicycle Crashes at Intersections?
Bicycle crashes at intersections often involve visibility challenges and timing issues between drivers and cyclists. Intersections require quick decisions, and even a brief delay in noticing a cyclist can lead to serious consequences.
Road design can also influence safety. Limited lighting, unclear markings, or obstructed views may reduce a driver’s ability to see a bicyclist. Cyclists are more exposed than drivers, which can increase the risk of severe injury in a crash.
Traffic flow and speed are additional factors. When vehicles move quickly through intersections, there is less time to react. Both drivers and cyclists benefit from staying alert and following traffic signals to reduce the chance of a collision.
