Why Are Pedestrians at Risk When Standing in Active Roadways?
Standing in active traffic lanes can be extremely dangerous, particularly on roadways where vehicles are traveling at higher speeds.
Drivers may have limited time to react when encountering someone in the roadway, especially in low-light conditions or areas without pedestrian infrastructure. Even attentive drivers may be unable to stop in time to avoid a collision.
These situations highlight the importance of avoiding active lanes whenever possible and using designated pedestrian areas for safety.
