Motorcycle Crashes and Lane Departures
Motorcycles are particularly vulnerable when they cross into oncoming traffic. Even minor lane departures at higher speeds can result in severe collisions. Unlike drivers in cars, riders have minimal protection, which often leads to serious or fatal injuries.
Such crashes may occur due to misjudgment, sudden swerving to avoid obstacles, or other road factors. When motorcycles enter opposing lanes, the impact with larger vehicles can be devastating.
Roadway design, visibility, and speed differences between vehicles can also influence the severity of these incidents. Wearing proper safety gear can reduce risk, but it does not fully prevent injury in head-on or side-impact collisions.
