How Head-on Collisions Typically Occur on Rural Roads
Head-on crashes often happen when a vehicle drifts across the centerline into oncoming traffic. This can occur due to distraction, fatigue, speed, or loss of control.
On rural or semi-rural roads, long stretches of roadway can increase the risk of delayed reaction time. Drivers may also face limited lighting or fewer physical barriers between lanes.
Investigators usually review road markings, vehicle positions, and witness accounts to determine how a vehicle left its lane. These findings help clarify the sequence of events leading up to the crash.
