Jefferson Parish, LA (May 2, 2026) – A bicyclist died after being struck by a vehicle early on Friday morning along Jefferson Highway near Clearview Parkway.
The crash occurred shortly before 6:00 a.m. on May 1. The police said 50-year-old Carl Stewart of New Orleans was riding a bicycle south across the westbound lanes when he was hit by a 2003 Mercedes-Benz C240 traveling west in the left lane.
Emergency units responded and transported Stewart to a hospital with serious injuries. He later died on Saturday, May 2. The driver of the Mercedes-Benz was not hurt and remained at the scene.
Investigators reported the bicycle had no visible lights or reflective items at the time of the crash. The driver provided a breath sample that showed no alcohol, and impairment is not believed to be a factor. The incident remains under investigation by authorities.
