Speed and Seatbelt Use Are Key Factors in Highway Safety
Highway crashes can become especially severe when vehicles are traveling at high speeds. Excessive speed reduces the amount of time drivers have to react to slowing or stopped traffic ahead.
Roadways such as the Las Vegas Beltway carry heavy commuter traffic during early morning hours. When vehicles unexpectedly slow or stop, drivers traveling at high speeds may struggle to avoid collisions.
Seatbelts also play a critical role in protecting occupants during crashes. Safety experts note that wearing a seatbelt significantly reduces the risk of serious injury or death in high-impact collisions.
