Lebanon, KY (April 12, 2026) – A deadly head-on crash was reported Friday evening, April 10, along KY 49 in Marion County. The accident happened on Bradfordville Road in the Lebanon area.
Authorities say 21-year-old Mason May of Lebanon was driving a 2011 Honda Civic north when a southbound 2014 Ford F-150 crossed into his lane. The truck was driven by 35-year-old Jacob Buckingham of Bradfordville. Reports indicate Buckingham attempted to pass another vehicle in a no-passing zone before the collision.
Emergency units arrived at the scene and found severe damage to both vehicles. May was pronounced dead at the scene by the Marion County Coroner. Buckingham was taken to Spring View Hospital with minor injuries.
No other injuries were confirmed, and further details about additional vehicles were not released.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash. We extend our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased.
What Factors Can Lead to Head-On Collisions on Rural Roads?
Head-on crashes often happen on two-lane roads where traffic moves in opposite directions without a divider. These roads can increase risk when drivers attempt to pass slower vehicles or misjudge distance and speed.
Limited visibility is another factor, especially on curved or hilly stretches. Drivers may not see oncoming traffic in time to react safely. Road markings, such as double yellow lines, are placed to prevent passing in these areas.
Driver decisions also affect safety. Passing in restricted zones or speeding can quickly lead to dangerous situations. Staying within marked lanes and following posted signs helps reduce the chance of a serious crash.
