Manchester Township, NJ (February 28, 2026) – A 65-year-old man lost his life on Wednesday afternoon, February 25, following a multi-vehicle collision on State Highway 70 at Beckerville Road in Manchester Township. Emergency units were dispatched to the intersection around 3:26 p.m. after reports of a serious crash involving several vehicles.
Upon arrival, responders found a 2014 Lincoln MKX with heavy front-end damage stopped in the eastbound lane. A 2016 Nissan Rogue with significant damage was located on the eastbound shoulder, while a 2019 Honda Passport with rear driver-side damage was found on the westbound shoulder. Investigators determined the Lincoln and Honda had been traveling westbound, while the Nissan was heading eastbound.
Officials said the Honda slowed to make a right turn onto Beckerville Road when it was struck from behind by the Lincoln. After that impact, the Lincoln crossed the center line and collided head-on with the Nissan. The Lincoln rotated before coming to rest in the eastbound lane, while the Nissan was pushed onto the shoulder. A fourth vehicle sustained minor damage but was not involved in the initial collision.
The Lincoln’s driver, Lisandro V. Morales of Manchester, suffered severe internal injuries and was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Nissan’s driver, Joseph Rodaligo of Jackson, was hospitalized with internal and neck injuries. The Honda driver and a 4-year-old passenger were not hurt.
Route 70 remained closed for several hours while crews worked at the scene. Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash.
Our hearts go out to Mr. Morales’s family and all those affected by this tragic incident.
What Happens During Chain-Reaction Crashes on Busy Highways
Crashes involving multiple vehicles often begin with a single impact that quickly escalates. When one vehicle strikes another at highway speeds, the force can push vehicles across lanes, increasing the risk of head-on collisions and secondary impacts.
Following distances play a major part in these situations. When drivers travel too closely, there may be little time to react to slowing or turning vehicles ahead. Sudden braking can lead to rear-end impacts that set off a chain reaction across multiple lanes.
Investigators reviewing these crashes typically look at vehicle spacing, roadway conditions, traffic flow, and driver actions just before impact. Damage patterns and final resting positions of vehicles can also provide insight into how events unfolded, especially when several vehicles are involved in a short span of time.
