What Factors Are Commonly Examined in Head-On Off-Road Vehicle Crashes?
Head-on collisions involving off-road or dirt bikes are often reviewed to determine rider position, speed, and trail or roadway conditions at the time of impact. Even in rural or low-traffic areas, limited visibility and narrow paths can increase the risk of collisions.
Investigators may also examine terrain features, lighting conditions, and any available witness accounts to better understand how the riders came into contact. In some cases, tire tracks and impact marks help reconstruct the direction of travel before the crash.
Because protective barriers are limited on dirt bikes, injuries in these types of collisions can be severe. These factors are typically considered when reconstructing the sequence of events leading to the impact.
