What Factors Are Commonly Reviewed After a Fatal Highway Crash?
After a deadly highway accident, several details are usually examined to understand better how the crash happened. Investigators often examine the positions of the vehicles, roadway conditions, weather, and traffic patterns at the time of the collision. Damage to each vehicle can also help show the force and direction of impact.
Traffic camera footage and witness statements may provide additional information about the moments leading up to the crash. In some cases, speed, lane changes, or driver reaction times are reviewed as part of the process. Medical findings may also help explain the severity of injuries suffered by those involved.
Highway crashes near major interchanges can become especially complex because of merging traffic, higher speeds, and limited reaction time for drivers traveling through busy areas.
