Moorefield Township, OH (March 13, 2026) – Three people were killed in a multi-vehicle crash on Friday afternoon, March 13, on State Route 4 in Clark County, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Authorities said the crash occurred around 1:50 p.m. when a Mercedes-Benz GLC driven by 58-year-old Tamara Jones of Germantown, Maryland, was traveling north on Prairie Road. Investigators reported that the vehicle failed to yield at a stop sign and entered the intersection with State Route 4.
The Mercedes-Benz was struck by a tractor-trailer traveling northeast on State Route 4. After the initial impact, the tractor-trailer overturned and collided with a Jeep Wrangler traveling southwest on the highway. Officials said both the Mercedes-Benz and the semi-truck left the roadway on the north side. The Mercedes-Benz then flipped over and struck a fence.
Jones and her two passengers, 80-year-old Carolyn Honore of Urbana and 79-year-old Cheryl Caesar of Columbus, were pronounced dead at the scene. Meanwhile, the drivers of the tractor-trailer and the Jeep Wrangler sustained minor injuries and were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.
The crash shut down State Route 4 in both directions for several hours as emergency crews investigated and cleared the scene. The roadway reopened shortly after 8:30 p.m.
Authorities continue to investigate the collision. Our thoughts are with the victims’ families during this difficult time.
Why Failure to Yield at Intersections Can Lead to Serious Crashes
Intersections are common locations for serious collisions, particularly when drivers fail to yield the right of way. When a vehicle enters a roadway without ensuring that it is clear, it can create a dangerous situation for oncoming traffic.
Large vehicles such as tractor-trailers require longer distances to slow down or stop. When a smaller vehicle pulls into their path unexpectedly, the result can be a high-impact collision.
Crashes involving multiple vehicles may occur when the force of the initial collision pushes vehicles into other lanes of traffic. Investigators typically review traffic controls, vehicle movement, and witness statements to determine how the crash unfolded.
