Why Helmets Can Reduce Injury Severity in Moped Collisions
Helmets are one of the most effective forms of protection for moped and scooter riders. During a roadway collision, riders are usually ejected from their vehicles, increasing the risk of head trauma when they strike the pavement or another object.
A properly fitted helmet helps absorb part of the force generated during a crash. While it cannot prevent every injury, studies have shown that helmet use can significantly reduce the likelihood of severe head injuries and fatalities.
Other protective gear, including jackets, gloves, and durable footwear, may also help reduce harm during a fall. Riders are encouraged to inspect their equipment regularly and replace helmets that have been involved in a significant impact. Consistent use of protective gear remains one of the most effective ways to improve rider safety on public roads.
