Morgan County, AL (April 12, 2026) – One person was injured Saturday, April 11, after a boat crash on the Tennessee River in Morgan County. Emergency units were dispatched around 1 p.m. to the area near mile marker 306, close to the GE plant on the south side.
Responders learned the incident involved a vessel crash, leaving at least one person hurt. Rescue boats quickly located the vessel and the people involved shortly after arriving at the scene. Officials said a nearby boater transported the injured person to the GE plant boat ramp.
Once at the ramp, emergency units took over care, and the patient was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital for further treatment. Reports from those involved indicate the boat may have struck something beneath the water, causing it to overturn multiple times.
All three people on board were thrown into the river during the incident. Nearby boaters stopped to assist and called 911 for help.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as soon as they become available.
Our thoughts are with the injured individual as they continue to recover.
What Can Lead to Boat Crashes on Rivers Like the Tennessee River?
Boat crashes on rivers can occur for several reasons, especially in areas where water conditions may change quickly. Submerged objects, such as rocks, logs, or debris, are a common hazard and may not always be visible from the surface.
Operator awareness also matters, as river traffic and shifting currents can affect how a vessel moves. Even experienced boaters may have limited time to react when something unexpected appears in their path.
Safety equipment, including life jackets, can reduce risk when a crash occurs. In many cases, nearby boaters play a key role in early response, helping those in the water before emergency crews arrive.
